PITTSBURGH, Sept. 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is a statement from Samuel A. Worthington, InterAction President and CEO:
"Although we are encouraged by the tone of urgency regarding climate change by the world's leaders both today at the G20 and earlier this week at the UN General Assembly, we have long passed the point of rhetoric and instead must begin the process of putting concrete commitments on the table. Dismantling the log jam that is preventing progress within the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) process will require new, additional, predictable and adequate financial resources for adaptation, enhanced mitigation actions, technology sharing, and capacity building in developing countries.
During the L'Aquila G8 Summit, President Obama called on global finance ministers to report at the G-20 on progress made on climate change finance. The result, rather than putting a financial proposal on the table, is a directive to finance ministers to outline the menu of financing options at their November meeting. With Copenhagen less than 80 days away, the opportunity to make real progress that responds to the scale of need and respects principles of equity is slipping away. The time is now and we can no longer afford to delay.
InterAction is the largest alliance of US-based nongovernmental international humanitarian relief and development organizations with more than 180 members. Our members operate in every developing country, working with local communities to overcome poverty and suffering by helping to improve their quality of life.
Im sure youve heard a lot of gossip about Acorn recently and here are some facts. Acorn with 57 million in government funding since 1993 and stimulus earmarks of 8.5 billion proposed in future funding, stands accused in 9 states on various counts of voter fraud. In the past theyve had 30 employees convicted for various crimes and the founders brother was accused of embezzlement of one million dollars. Most recently they were caught on tape giving advice on how a prostitute could claim her profession as performing arts and deduct her clothes as a business expense. To further insult the American tax payer the Acorn employee who is reported to be a CPA further instructed a pimp how to claim under age illegal aliens as dependents and qualify for a mortgage for the purpose of buying a brothel. This scandalous behavior makes for great sensational news but what about the real crime against the taxpayer?
The American taxpayers need to know what services Acorn provides. Who are there clients? And why has our government funded this Private NOT for Profit Organization to the extent of 57 million dollars. All of these are important questions we need to ask.
